Our Digs

Our studio is in the district known as the Marais, one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. The streets are very narrow and made of broken stone. It is utterly charming.

There is a large orthodox Jewish population, many kosher shops, a temple and a religious school. Yesterday we saw a delivery to the kosher butcher (boucherie). Sides of beef were hanging by large hooks and, one at a time, were moved to the lift gate, then the delivery man threw them over his shoulder and carried into the shop.

The entrance to our building is like something out of Lewis Carroll or Diagon Alley. We need to climb three flights of narrow wooden and stone steps to get to the 3eme etage, our floor. It's a challenge when we are tired from walking all day.

The studio is large enough to be the envy of most New Yorkers. It has a good-sized bathroom, a kitchenette, twin beds, a sitting area and a large flatscreen. We are happy with this place Beth's daughter, Dominique and her boyfriend, Julien, found for us.

  1. That apartment is just as gorgeous as the photos! The stairs will ensure you work off the wine, cheese and macarons which, I hope, you are consuming plenty of! Amusez-vous, les soeurs!

  2. I'm so happy to read of your adventures. It sounds wonderful, except for the butcher part. lol. Maybe you could visit the synagogue and drop off a copy of "Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus." Scandalous.

It just sounds like so much fun. The pics of the place are so perfect. I am so happy for you.

  3. They weren't delivering pigs, Kathy. Those were cow sides. The weird thing was all the revelry in Shabbas. Praise and worship?
