The Best-Laid Plans

As is often the case, the eve of a departure brings disasters.  There also is the saying that bad things come in threes, and that would describe my last evening.  As organized as I tried to be, there were three unavoidables.  Ok, two were unavoidable and one was me gambling with my printer.  I was rolling the dice that it was only kidding when it said I needed more cyan.   I thought I'd just print in black and white until I got back from my trip.  But my printer doesn't work that way.  If one color is out, it won't work at all.  It just refuses to churn out the papers, and on Wednesday afternoon it went on strike until I fed it a new cyan cartridge.  Ok, I will take responsibility for that one. So two things:  I worked three hours on the last day, Wednesday, then went to the farmers market to get flame grape raisins for my cousin in Ohio and came home to leisurely repack and do my final tidying up.  The HVAC people had come to install my air-conditioning system on Tuesday, the last day I was at home before I left.  Once they got everything trenched, dug, drilled, connected and plugged in, they discovered there was a valve that didn't work.  So, that left Wednesday to get the valve and make it work.  Uh-oh!  All the HVAC teams were busy in the field----some other field, not mine.  Then I decided to run a little load of laundry while I did some work on the computer.  As I was checking email I heard a glug glug glug from the kitchen sink.  It was no time to play the 'you're kidding' game again.  It was the undeniable sound of the plumbing backing up.   That left me having to scare up the plumber and buy an ink cartridge on the evening before I left home for a month.   I was not to be intimidated.  No sirree, nothing was going to stop me from having a happy departure.  The HVAC folks will finish after I get home.  It's time to go.
